Meet the Principal

Craig Salter is committed to the mission of preparing students for success in school, work, and life. Throughout his career, he has focused on empowering teachers, fostering staff growth, expanding minds, and making a lasting impact on students. Joining Fenton Area Public Schools in 2018 as the principal of Tomek-Eastern Elementary School, Craig transitioned to lead State Road Elementary School in 2024.

At the heart of Craig’s leadership is his dedication to creating a school community where every student feels welcomed, safe, and inspired to discover their love of learning. His passion for supporting teachers in achieving their goals—both within and beyond the classroom—has been instrumental in developing future administrators and building leaders.

Craig began his career teaching sixth grade at Birch Run Area Schools before moving to Goodrich Area Schools, where he taught fifth through eighth grades. His enthusiasm for helping others reach their full potential naturally led him to pursue a role in administration, where he could inspire and coach teachers and staff on a broader scale.

Over the years, Craig has cultivated a diverse skill set. He is a Certified Human Resource Specialist for K-12 Administration with expertise in special education, facilities management, and instructional leadership. Additionally, he is trained in Cognitive Coaching and Adaptive Schools, approaches that enhance teacher development and collaboration.

Craig is also a proud alumnus of the Gerstacker Fellowship at Saginaw Valley State University, where he collaborated with highly skilled administrators from across Michigan. This prestigious program concluded with an overseas trip to Finland and Germany, where Craig gained valuable insights into international educational practices by engaging with teachers and administrators abroad.

Craig holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University and a Master’s degree from Walden University.
